Baptism What Is It Good For? by Edward James Wittlif

In Jesus’ high priest’s prayer (John 17) before His being betrayed, He said, That they (His disciples) may be one even as We (Jesus and the Father and the Spirit) are, verse 11.

Again, That they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us” verse 21. That they may be one, just as We are one verse 22. I in them, and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity verse 23. Four times Jesus prayed for our unity. Not just any unity, but unity equal to that of the Godhead. In this short prayer before His death, we see that unity of those who believe in Him is extremely important to Jesus.

Even though Jesus prayed for unity, how one becomes a sanctified believer is disagreed on. This why I wrote, Baptism: What Is It Good For? Baptism is a major block to Jesus’ followers being united. In my book I examine; grace, faith, hearing, repenting, confessing, and baptism all of have Scriptures tying it to salvation.

Baptism What Is It Good For? by Edward James Wittlif

In a world filled with division and discord, even among those who claim to follow Christ, Edward James Wittlif’s book “Baptism: What Is It Good For?” offers a timely and crucial message about the importance of unity in the body of Christ.

Drawing from the powerful words of Jesus’ high priestly prayer in John 17, Wittlif highlights the Lord’s deepest desire for His disciples: that they may be one, just as He and the Father are one. This unity is not a mere suggestion or a lofty ideal, but a divine imperative that lies at the very heart of the Gospel.

Yet, as Wittlif astutely observes, one of the greatest obstacles to achieving this Christ-like unity is the ongoing debate over the role and significance of baptism in the life of a believer. While some view baptism as an essential step in the journey of salvation, others see it as a symbolic act that holds little bearing on one’s eternal destiny.

In “Baptism: What Is It Good For?”, Wittlif dives deep into the Scriptures to examine the various elements that are tied to salvation, including grace, faith, hearing, repenting, confessing, and baptism. With a scholar’s eye and a pastor’s heart, he carefully unpacks each of these concepts, offering fresh insights and biblical perspectives that challenge readers to reexamine their own beliefs and practices.

But this book is not simply an academic exercise or a theological treatise. Rather, it is a clarion call to the Church to lay aside its differences and divisions and embrace the unity that Christ so fervently prayed for. By exploring the true meaning and purpose of baptism, Wittlif invites readers to see this sacred act not as a point of contention, but as a powerful symbol of our shared identity in Christ.

Whether you are a new believer seeking to understand the significance of baptism, or a seasoned Christian looking to deepen your understanding of this essential doctrine, “Baptism: What Is It Good For?” is a must-read. With its clear, compelling arguments and its unwavering commitment to biblical truth, this book has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about baptism and its role in the life of the Church.

So if you long to see the body of Christ united in love and purpose, if you desire to experience the fullness of God’s grace and the power of His Spirit, then pick up a copy of “Baptism: What Is It Good For?” today. Let Edward James Wittlif guide you on a journey of discovery and transformation, as you seek to align your heart and mind with the heart and mind of Christ.

“Baptism: What Is It Good For?” is a powerful call to unity in the body of Christ, offering fresh insights and biblical perspectives on the true meaning and purpose of baptism.
