The Laird’s Wife: A Victorian Tale of Beauty, Betrayal, and Bloodshed

In the treacherous world of Victorian Scotland, beauty is the deadliest weapon of all. Sophia, a woman forged in the fires of childhood abuse, wields her allure like a poisoned blade. Her marriage to Hugo, heir to a Scottish lairdship, is but a stepping stone in her relentless climb to power.

Behind Sophia’s angelic façade lies a mind as sharp as it is twisted. In a man’s world, she plays a dangerous game, manipulating hearts and minds with the skill of a master puppeteer. But as she tightens her grip on the estate, she ensnares not just her husband, but also Willie, a young crofter whose dreams of escaping poverty are about to collide violently with Sophia’s ambitions.

As secrets unravel and loyalties shift, Hugo finds himself trapped between love and legacy. The woman he once adored now threatens everything he holds dear, forcing him to confront the monster behind the mask. Meanwhile, Willie becomes an unwitting pawn in a deadly chess match, where one false move could cost him everything.

“The Laird’s Wife” is a gripping saga that peels back the genteel veneer of Victorian society to reveal the raw ambition and dark desires lurking beneath. It’s a tale that will resonate with fans of “Outlander” and “Poldark,” offering a unflinching look at the price of power and the strength required to defy it.

Will Hugo and Willie find the courage to stand against Sophia’s machinations? Or will her web of deceit prove inescapable? Step into the world of “The Laird’s Wife” and discover that in the game of power, victory often comes at a horrific cost.

About the Author

I am a retired teacher, married with three children and three grandchildren. My greatest achievement, along with my wife, has been to successfully raise two sons who were born with Cystic Fibrosis. During my time as a teacher, I had a series of three math textbooks published and more recently a children’s fantasy book entitled ‘Somewhere in Yorkshire’, plus a political thriller ‘The Dark Side of Innocence’ set in 1980’s London. My wife and I have a small villa in Spain, and we regularly travel back and forth to enjoy the sunshine and outdoor life. It’s a great place to write!
