The Tao of Star Trek by Joseph Di Lella
Similar to the first two books in this series, The Tao of Star Trek: Finding Your Inner Self Through Outer Space (Volume 3), focuses on the latest series in the Trek franchise. Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard plus Star Trek: Short Takes. The most defining stories of these highly entertaining science fiction series are once again examined by both Taoist philosophy and war strategies. Therefore, once again, Lao Tzu’s and Sun Tzu’s most important ideas on peace and war are applied to the best stories of the latest Trek sagas.
Similar to the first two books in this series of The Tao of Star Trek, the last in the trilogy provides lessons to be learned and applied in Everyday Reflections and Everyday Actions for each selected tale.
It is the author’s greatest hope that Gene Roddenberry’s original vision for the future can be smartly examined in this book. Gene’s stories illustrated that although both humans and alien species in the not-so-distant-future share similar traits of good and evil, they can work through their differences, and hate and mistrust can be put aside for peaceful co-existence.
If we in the 21st century can only see the wisdom of Roddenberry’s storytelling, perhaps we too can put aside our need for power and dominance of overs. If we can only look inside ourselves to see what drives our best and worse intentions, perhaps we can be the prototype Gene imagined and hope for humanity in the 23rd century.
